FileMaker Script workspace is getting a search + go to line function

Posted by Russell Watson on 19 October, 2015 at 8:45 Comments comments ()

Thanks to Christian Schmitz of MBS plugins (and my great ideas) the FileMaker Workspace is getting a seach function and a go to line function!

Just install the MBS plugin (at least version 5.4.0.02) and you'll see two new input fields and a button:

  1. To jump to a specific line just type a number in the Go To field and press return
  2. To find a specific word or phrase in the script, just enter your search word in the MBS Search field and scroll until you see yellow highlighted lines
  3. To copy the script text to the clipboard just press the [copy script] button
With fmSyntaxColorizer you can also define your own script colors and turn on variable checking, to find those pesky undefined variables. (fmSyntaxColorizer will be appearing shortly with improved functionality for fm14.)

fmWorkMate is the answer to your cross platform copying problems

Posted by Russell Watson on 25 September, 2013 at 20:30 Comments comments ()

As the folks over at FileMakers fmdev Technet Site noticed,

Copying and pasting Scripts or Script lines from Mac to Remote PC is not easy and does not always work.

Apple Remote Desktop, TeamViewer, Remote Desktop Connection, Cord, et al can copy text cross-platform (usually), but often stumble when trying to copy FileMaker objects directly across the divide.

Well, here we know the answer to the problem, and it's called fmCheckMate, the heart of the fmWorkMate toolbox.

The solution is VERY EASY:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Install fmCheckMate on the local computer                 2. Install fmCheckMate on the remote computer

3. Copy FM objects here       4. CLICK here       -^v->      5. CLICK there      6. Paste FM Objects in the remote DB

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ONLY TWO EXTRA CLICKS in fmCheckMate (one local + one remote) are necessary.

:-)

fmCheckMate has bridged the divide and the FileMaker objects have jumped the gap!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But of course, fmCheckMate is only a fraction of the story: In the forum thread you can read my original comments, as to: Why fmWorkMate the ideal toolkit is to help FileMaker developers support & develop bug-free remote solutions.

Happy remote supporting!

fmSyntaxColorizer is getting noticed...

Posted by Russell Watson on 20 September, 2013 at 18:20 Comments comments ()

So the folks at CampSoftware have found fmSyntaxColorizer - the quick way of customizing your colors - and like it :)!

That's nice to hear! They have even constructed their own default palette -> maybe I'll add a "CampSoftware' palette to the next release ...

Lots of thanks to the MBS-Plugin, but let's not forget to mention the author of the tool, eh?

Greetings from all around the world

fmWorkMate Debut pauseOnError Berlin 2013

Posted by Russell Watson on 3 June, 2013 at 16:45 Comments comments ()

The pauseOnError Unconference Berlin 2013

Is it a conference? Is it a seminar? No! It's an unconference!

"PauseOnError is a gathering of software developers and consultants who use FileMaker.

This is a SELF-ORGANIZING effort; content is created by the attendees.

POE is FREE as in zero, zip, nada. Though, donations are encouraged."

What's that? Well, according to the Pause[X] website it is a

"Community based pause; local developers unconference"

Think "local", however, in a global context! We're not talking here about Berlin and suburbs, rather an international gathering of like-minded and keen FileMaker developers.

The attendees list boasts a magnificent "catchment" geographically spanning not only the European continent: local-to-Berlin (and above all and with thanks to Berlin-based organiser Herr Friedrich), German, British, Belgian, Danish, Swededish, Czech, Italian, Swiss, Spanish, French, Dutch, Finiish, Austrian and Leichtensteinish (really very sorry, but I have no idea what the national adjective is for Leichtenstein) but also one or two global players, for example Bruce Robertson of Concise Design all the way from USA*!

In other words:

This is just the place for fmWorkMate (beta) to make it's debut

Checkout the https://poexberlin2013.wikispaces.com/Sessions+%26+Schedule" target="_blank">Thursday afternoon sessions! or the https://poexberlin2013.wikispaces.com/fmWorkMate+-%C2%A010+Tools+to+Make+FileMaker+Work" target="_blank">Introduction to fmCheckMate

I wish everybody a very succesful unconference - the counttown is rolling!

------------------

* Respect to you sir! - Oh, and by the way, I can recommend the "Weizenbier", "Currywürst und pommes rot/weiß",  Bus number 100, the Berlin Zoo, the Reichstag, and, of course, Berlinerinnen (the latter are so good I married one)!**

** This is not quite true, in fact she was a Sauerländerin, whom I met in Berlin.
